It’s already been five years since Designs of the 5 Domains opened for business! I couldn’t be more grateful to my clients, coworkers, peers and friends who have supported me, recommended me and helped me turn my passion for art into a successful business. None of this would have been possible without the constant support and feedback of my clients who have pushed the limits of my imagination and helped me achieve the dream I have always wanted.
Several of my amazing clients are repeat customers. One such client is Steve Shriver, an entrepreneur extraordinaire and avid nonprofit organizer, for whom I have designed more than 5 websites. Check out a few of the sites I created for Steve: Also, I like to send a special thanks to Steve and his family for their support over the years!

Since its inception, Designs of the 5 Domains has expanded from a one-woman show to employing several graphic artists, marketing professionals and writers. A key member of the Designs of the 5 Domains team is David Cornish, my go-to staff member for design and development projects. In fact, David is the mastermind behind the design of the new Designs of the 5 Domains website, which includes client testimonialsand a portfolio section which automatically updates on the homepage. I really wouldn’t have such a successful business without his constant guidance and support.David’s assistance frees my time to offer another service: ghost designing. Ghost designing is when I collaborate as a third-party designer for local graphic design and development competitors who have an overflow of work, and is a great way to hone my skills and network with other area professionals.

Working in the design field gives me a unique avenue in volunteering. At least once a year, I donate my design services to nonprofits in our local community. To date, I have donated skills to Women for Peace, Linn County Ops, Concert Corral and other area nonprofits. It feels great to be in a position where I can give back and help out such great organizations in my own community.
Now, here’s a fun fact for all of you Cedar Rapidians: “Designs of the 5 Domains” is not named for the City of 5 Seasons. What “5 Domains” really stands for is the 5 domains of design (the five services D5D offers): graphic design, photography, print media, website development and video editing. But isn’t it sort of fun how the name fits?
Here’s to D5D’s 5 year anniversary, and to many more successful, exciting years to come!
